Safety measures for preventing motor vehicle accidents

On Behalf of | Mar 22, 2023 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Charlotte is home to thousands of commuters making their way to and from work or school every day. The more motorists there are, the higher the chances of motor vehicle accidents. These are helpful safety tips to consider while commuting.

Distractions can lead to infractions

Although multitasking has been an increasing phenomenon with the advent of technology, you should never remove your attention away from the road. Distracted driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Typing a single word can lead to vehicular manslaughter. It is illegal to read or write a text message while driving in North Carolina.

If you are a pedestrian, you should give the same level of focus when crossing a road as a driver would when driving through a busy intersection.

Fasten your seatbelt

Your seatbelt protects your body from flinging outside the car. Always fasten your seatbelt, even when driving slowly or driving short distances.

Check your shoulder

It is vital to always check the mirrors before making any lane changes. However, the mirrors do not always cover your blind spot. You can make the extra effort to check your shoulder to confirm that the lane you are merging into is clear.

Haste makes waste

Running late and driving is an extremely stressful combination. It can cause you to make illogical and sudden decisions on the road. Speeding alone heightens your susceptibility to accidents and that of the people around you.

Get enough sleep

Do not get behind the wheel if you feel sleepy or extremely tired. It would be much safer to take a bus or train.

Commuting is not the best part of life, but it is a necessary endeavor we all must suffer through. By being more aware and taking extra care, we can understand how and why these accidents happen and hopefully prevent them.
